Short Description:
Around the world, people are connecting through the ability to create, share and watch videos online. You Tube is a Web site that allows anyone to create a free account and upload video content that they have created. The videos can then be made searchable and publically accessible. Many universities and educational institutions have created their own YouTube channels where content can be regulated or monitored.
The Flip video camera is a small, inexpensive ($199.), portable video camera that is designed to be very simple to use. You can download video directly to your computer using the built in USB port. If you want to watch video right away on the big screen, you can plug a cable into the camera’s built in HDMI port and then right into your high definition TV. The video camera takes AA batteries and can also be charged by plugging it into your computer or wall socket.

Duke Nursing Students Created Health Policy Advocacy Videos
Nancy M. Short
Associate Clinical Professor, Duke School of Nursing
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students engaged in a unique active learning experience in Spring 2009 as they tackled Nursing 652 Transforming The Nation’s Health at the Duke School of Nursing. In one assignment Dr. Nancy M. Short required students to prepare a script, plan interviews and “shoot” a health policy advocacy video on location. Students checked out and used Flip camcorders provided by the Duke University Library Link . Students also participated in a custom hands-on training workshop provided by the Duke Center for Instructional Technology. Within a three-week time window, the students filmed the scenes and edited their videos with the built-in FlipShare software. After the instructor’s review and approval, eleven of the 23 videos were launched on the DUSON YouTube Channel. Videos can be viewed under the playlist of the Influencing Health Policy.
